Vision and Mission

Our Vision: To Be Light Unleashed

Jesus’ original vision for His church was light unleashed; a church whose life & good works were so compelling to the world around it that the community would be drawn to God because of its irresistible influence.

You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

Our Mission: To Reach Out to Frederick County

To become a body of Christians committed to reaching the unchurched of Frederick County. We will do this by being an exciting, growing and innovative church that,by following God’s leadership and timing, will start new churches that will start new churches.

How Do We Carry Out Our Vision and Mission?

Two Commandments: Love God, Love Neighbor

First, we recognize that the teaching of Jesus is quite straightforward. When he was asked what was the greatest commandment, he answered by saying:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 22:37-40

Three Christian Imperatives:

Second, like a three legged stool cannot work with one leg missing, we see three basic aspects to living our lives as Light Unleashed:

  • Personal Transformation
  • Community Formation
  • Missional Action

The Three Imperatives are to be expressed on each level of our community’s life: individual, small group, and congregational.

Four Essential Activities:

Finally, we think the Three Imperatives are made concrete in action by:

  • Growing in a personal relationship with God;
  • Sharing life in a small group focused on nurture, accountability and service;
  • Worshiping with the larger church;
  • Serving others based on need, calling and giftedness.
